Day trips from your base

Each day trip leaves from a base and returns there in the evening: the schedule, the transfer and the places along the way.

12 day trips shown

  • White-sand cove between wooded cliffs and rocks in a turquoise sea, on Nusa Penida’s east coast
    • Sanur

East Nusa Penida in a day from Sanur: Atuh, then Crystal Bay

A day for Nusa Penida’s other face: Atuh cove between two cliffs, at the far end of the island, then the drive back west to finish at Crystal Bay. Fewer people than at Kelingking, but far more road. The times given here are indicative.

  • A woman and two schoolgirls on a scooter on a village road in Bali, in front of houses and a parked car
    • Ubud

Munduk in a day from Ubud: Sekumpul, Banyumala, Lake Tamblingan

The highlands of north Bali in a day: the Sekumpul falls, the Banyumala pool and Lake Tamblingan in the forest. It can be done from Ubud, but it is as much a day of driving as of waterfalls, and each place’s best moment, early morning, is out of reach. The times given here are indicative.

  • A woman and two schoolgirls on a scooter on a village road in Bali, in front of houses and a parked car
    • Canggu

Munduk in a day from Canggu: Sekumpul, Lake Tamblingan, Banyumala

From the Canggu coast, the Munduk mountains are far away: several hours of road out, as many back. The day is still possible if you accept leaving before dawn and seeing only three places. For many travellers, a night up there is a better choice. The times given here are indicative.

  • Amed bay and its fishing boats, Mount Agung in the background at golden hour
    • Ubud

Amed in a day from Ubud: the Tulamben wreck, Jemeluk and Lipah

Bali’s north-east coast for a day of snorkelling: the Liberty wreck a few metres off the Tulamben pebbles, then the coral at Jemeluk and Lipah, reached from the beach. The road is long, but you see the underwater world without a boat, children included. The times given here are indicative.

  • Amed bay and its fishing boats, Mount Agung in the background at golden hour
    • Canggu

Amed in a day from Canggu: Jemeluk, Lipah and the Tulamben wreck

From Canggu, Amed is at the other end of Bali. You can go for the day, swim over the coral of Jemeluk and Lipah and see the Tulamben wreck, but you spend more time on the road than in the water. This page explains how to do it, and when to give it up. The times given here are indicative.

  • Tegalalang rice terraces, north of Ubud, lined with coconut palms
    • Ubud

Around Ubud in a day: Campuhan, Tegallalang and Gunung Kawi

Three Ubud classics in the right order: the Campuhan ridge at sunrise, the Tegallalang rice fields before the coaches, then the shrines carved into the cliff at Gunung Kawi. Everything happens in the morning; the afternoon stays free, on purpose. The times given here are indicative.
