Dream Beach: Lembongan’s postcard, swimming to watch closely

Dream Beach is a white-sand cove between two low cliffs on the south-west coast of Nusa Lembongan, 30 to 45 minutes by fast boat from Sanur. The water is turquoise and the beach photogenic, but it opens onto the ocean: waves and current are strong. You swim close to the shore, keeping an eye on the sea.

In short

Facts as of · sourced figures

You settle on the sand, watch the waves and swim close to the shore when the sea allows. Cafés and a hotel overlook the cove. On the neighbouring rocks, a natural pool fills with every wave: lovely to look at, dangerous when the swell rises.

Key points

  • A beach open to the ocean: strong waves and current, swim close to the shore only.
  • No regular lifeguard: never leave a child alone in the water.
  • A hotel pool and cafés overlook the beach; some can be used if you order.
  • Devil’s Tear is a few minutes’ walk away: see it on the same outing.

Nusa Lembongan is Nusa Penida’s small, quieter neighbour, grouped here in the same region. Dream Beach is its most photographed beach: a cove of pale sand, closed in by limestone cliffs, facing the south-west swell.

What you do at Dream Beach

You settle on the sand, watch the waves and swim close to the shore when the sea allows. Cafés and a hotel overlook the cove. On the neighbouring rocks, a natural pool fills with every wave: lovely to look at, dangerous when the swell rises.

  • The beach: white sand, little shade, sun loungers at the cafés.
  • Swimming: close to the shore, in a calm sea; strong backwash as soon as the swell rises.
  • The natural pool next door: to be looked at from the rocks, not used in a swell.
  • The cafés above: drinks, meals, sometimes pool access if you order.

Getting there

Dream Beach lies in the south-west of Lembongan, next to Devil’s Tear. You get there by scooter, by electric buggy or on foot from Mushroom Bay. The car park is at the top of the cove, near the cafés, a few steps above the sand.

  1. From Mushroom Bay or Jungutbatu, follow the road to the south-west.
  2. Park at the top of the cove, near the cafés.
  3. Walk down a few steps to the sand.
  4. Watch the sea for a few minutes before going in.

For the crossing: Sanur to Nusa Lembongan, 30 to 45 minutes by fast boat, plus check-in.

When to go

In the morning the beach is quieter and the light soft. Around midday, the day trips from Bali arrive. The sea changes with the tide and the swell: on some days swimming is pleasant, on others it is better to stay on the sand.

What to pair it with

Dream Beach goes with Devil’s Tear, its neighbour, then a calm swim at Mushroom Bay. With children, Mushroom Bay is the better choice for swimming. The three sites are close together: half a day by scooter or on foot is enough to see them all.

Frequently asked questions

Can you swim at Dream Beach?

Yes, close to the shore and when the sea is calm. Waves and current are strong as soon as the swell rises: watch the sea and do not swim far out.

Is Dream Beach suitable for children?

For playing on the sand, yes; for swimming, Mushroom Bay, which is more sheltered, is safer.

Is Dream Beach on Nusa Penida?

No: it is on Nusa Lembongan, the small neighbouring island, 30 to 45 minutes by fast boat from Sanur.
