Munduk waterfall: a single fall in the highland forest
Munduk waterfall drops from a moss-covered rock face at the bottom of a wooded valley, close to the village. You reach it on a forest trail, from the main road or on foot from Munduk. It is the first fall on the waterfall loop, and the easiest to pair with Lake Tamblingan or Banyumala.

In short
Facts as of · sourced figures
A single fall drops from a wall of moss and ferns into a forested valley. The spray soaks everything several metres around, the air is cool and the light filtered by the trees. You approach over the rocks without going into the water: the flow is strong and the pool uninviting.

Key points
- A single tall fall in the middle of the forest: you come for the setting, not for a swim.
- A short trail from the road, or about an hour there and back on foot from the village.
- Spray and slippery steps: closed shoes and a layer against the damp.
- An entrance fee is collected at the trailhead; the price is announced on site.
Munduk is a ridge village above lakes Tamblingan and Buyan, surrounded by forest and coffee and clove plantations. Several falls run down the nearby valleys; Munduk’s is the closest to the village, the first on a loop that continues to Melanting and Golden Valley.
To compare with the island’s other falls, see the waterfalls of Bali; to stay in the village, Munduk.

When to go
In the morning the trail is drier and light reaches into the valley. In the afternoon, mist often rises over the highlands and showers are frequent in the rainy season. The fall is most impressive after rain, but the trail then turns muddy and the rocks dangerous.
| Time slot | Trail | Light | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning | Drier | In the valley | The best time for the loop |
| Middle of the day | Variable | Filtered | A few groups |
| Afternoon | Often wet | Mist | Frequent showers in the rainy season |

What to pair it with
Munduk waterfall opens the walking loop to Melanting and Golden Valley, a morning on foot. On the lake road, Tamblingan at sunrise and Banyumala for a swim complete a calm day in the highlands, without any long distances by car.
- Lake Tamblingan: a lakeshore path and a dugout canoe in the mist.
- Banyumala: two falls and a pool to swim in.
